Meet the Doctor
Bio

As a dedicated nephrologist with over two decades of experience, Dr. Shadi Oweis passion for patient care and medical research has always been guided by a commitment to excellence and compassion. His educational journey began at Damascus University, where he earned his M.D. degree in 1995. From there, he pursued advanced studies at the Medical College of Ohio, earning a Ph.D. in the Molecular Bases of Disease, with a focus on cardiomyopathy and related kidney conditions. This research has been the foundation of his approach to patient care, emphasizing a deep understanding of the underlying causes of kidney disease.

Following his research, he completed his internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship at the University of Toledo, Ohio, where he honed his clinical skills and built a comprehensive understanding of both the medical and human aspects of nephrology. As a Board-certified physician in both Internal Medicine and Nephrology, and being licensed in Florida and Alabama, He has had the privilege of providing care to patients in Pensacola, Florida, as well as Brewton and Atmore, Alabama, since 2009. He is honored to serve these communities and deeply values the relationships he has built with his patients over the years. His commitment to patient care is driven by a dedication to the highest standards of practice, delivered with empathy and respect. He believes in creating a healing environment where every patient is treated not just as a case, but as an individual, with unique needs and experiences.

Outside of his clinical work, He is passionate about global exploration and supporting underprivileged communities around the world, which helps him broaden his perspective on healthcare and the importance of service. He enjoys spending time exploring the world with his family, engaging in activities that “strengthen our bond and keep us grounded”.

Merging his practice with Renalus Center for Kidney Care has been a “transformative experience”, allowing him to further cultivate a culture of service and excellence in nephrology. He strives to leave a lasting impact, not only through the care he provides but by advancing the culture of healthcare to be more compassionate, inclusive, and focused on long-term well-being. His legacy is “one of continuous learning, patient-centered care, and a vision for healthcare that values both medical expertise and personal connection”.
