Bio
Since joining the Renalus Center for Kidney Care in 2004, Tawana Cooper has had the privilege of working in both hospital and clinic settings, specializing in the compassionate care of patients with end-stage renal disease who require dialysis. Her role encompasses the management of patients undergoing conventional dialysis three times a week in a clinical environment, as well as those who perform their dialysis at home. Caring for dialysis patients requires a holistic approach; Tawana assesses and addresses a variety of medical issues, provides education on medications and disease management, and often serves as a source of emotional support. Her guiding principle is to treat others as I would wish to be treated.
Tawana earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Florida A&M University in April 1994. After several years of experience as a charge nurse, she developed a strong interest in women's health, leading her to pursue advanced education. In December 2003, she completed a Master of Science in Nursing and became a board-certified Women's Health Nurse Practitioner through the University of South Alabama. She is certified by the National Certification Corporation in Women's Health and licensed to practice in Florida. In August 2023, Tawana earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Florida Southern College with a focus on leadership. During her doctoral program, she collaborated with Renalus, Fresenius, and Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital to improve the kidney transplant referral process, demonstrating her commitment to healthcare innovation and patient advocacy. Tawana is licensed to practice in Florida.
Beyond her professional responsibilities, Tawana is passionate about giving back to her community. She engages with both my church and local organization through initiatives such as "Tea with Dr. TLC" and "What’s Up DOC," where she educates others on important medical topics. Tawana also volunteers with Northwest Florida Community Outreach, aiding those in need by providing clothing, personal items, furniture, and food.
Additionally, Tawana serves as the youth leader at her church, where she works to inspire and mentor younger generations. Amidst these commitments, Tawana cherishes quality time with her grandchildren who bring immense joy to her life.
